Thanks to everyone who has lit a candle for my Grandad it really means the world to me.

Grandad was only out of hospital for five days before he died it wasn't expected we believed he was
getting better.

I arrived back home on Tuesday 23rd September To be told by my husband that my Grandad was dying. I
couldn't believe it, I phoned my uncle to be told that he was in a bad way. I went straight over to
my grandparents house I got there at about 7.00 pm and my grandad passed at 2.10am on the 24th
September surrounded by the family he loved.

My Grandad Pickering was a strong, proud, intelligent man with very high morals. He loved his family
with all off his heart and would do whatever he could to make them happy even if it meant putting
himself out, he would give you his last.

He also loved wildlife and nature and would go out and walk for miles. That was until Grandads poor
health started and he had too give up his walking but he still carried on with his love of nature by
working in the garden growing his vegetables and flowers.

Grandad also enjoyed reading and had books on nearly everything you can imagine. If you wanted to
know anything he was the man to ask. He even self taught himself german and could speak it
fluently.

He was also a funny man joking on and would spend hours telling you funny tales from the past. I
loved to hear his stories he always made me laugh. Even when he was in hospital a week before he
died my Grandad was telling us his stories and making us laugh thats the man he was, he was poorly
and he was the one cheering us up.

Grandad Pickering you are going too be missed more that you can ever imagine.

Rose Beyond the Wall

A rose once grew
where all could see,
sheltered beside
a garden wall,
And as the days passed
swiftly by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall...

One day, a beam of light
shone through
a crevice that had
opened wide ~
The rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond
to the other side

Now, you who deeply
feel its loss,
be comforted ~ the rose blooms there ~
its beauty even greater now,
nurtured by
God's own loving care.

When Great Trees Fall
(Maya Angelou)

When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.
Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.
Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance,
fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of dark, cold
caves.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

~ Snow ~
(Tessa Wilkinson)

The snow arrived unannounced.
It overwhelmed everything.
Changed the landscape so it was unrecognisable.
No one was prepared.
My grief feels like that snowstorm.
I feel changed, weighed down by the burden.
Trying to negotiate the new environment around me.
Not knowing where I am going.
Looking for familiar landmarks.
I feel cold and miserable and ill equipped in this new place unvisited before.
But I know in time the snow will melt and return the landscape to some semblance of normality.
And I know in time my grief will diminish and I will find my way forward again, back to a world that I recognise, changed, but familiar.
Spring does always come after winter and hope will return.

Magic Of A Rainbow

I'll never see a rainbow
That I won't think of you;
Though days seem bleak and dreary
The sun is shining through.

A symbol of God's love fulfilled
In beauty, hope and grace;
A rainbow is a mirror
Reflecting His own face.

It arches o'er the mountains
With Heaven its domain;
Its brilliant colors wakened by
The grayness and the rain.

Now may I see the rainbows sent
To ease my broken heart,
Promising His healing love,
Shine through when teardrops start.

Miraculous, magical rainbows,
Blessing the sadness with peace;
God gently smiling and touching,
Bidding the sadness cease.

Where Peace Flows Like a River.

Together we will journey
To that land up in the sky
Where the flame does burn eternal
And the soul does never die.

Where the harps are gently playing
As a host of angels sing
Where the road is paved with diamonds
And the golden bells do ring.

Where the path is set before us
Shining brightly as the sun
We will see the face of Jesus
When our final race is run.

Where the peace flows like a river
Winding through the streets of gold
We will dine with priests and prophets
When the key to life, we hold.

Where the flame does burn eternal
In that sacred Promised Land
Where God holds the gift of freedom
In the cleft of His right hand.

Where we'll see the face of loved ones
Long before us, gone away
What a day of sweet rejoicing
When we meet again someday.
Where we'll gather at the river
In our home up in the sky
Where the peace flows like a fountain
And the soul does never die.

♥ From Water Bug to Dragonfly ♥
(Tessa Wilkinson)

The bottom of the pond is muddy and dark
There is fear of the unknown
There is loneliness as things change
There is the desperation of being left behind
Not knowing, not understanding
Watching and waiting
Then the journey comes
Up the stem
What waits beyond?
Sunlight
Freedom
Dancing together in joy with those who went before
And who will come after.

Quietly I Weep
By Lyndie Sorenson

Although I seem to hide it
My sorrow's still so deep
Missing you in silence
Quietly I weep

I long to see your smile
Hear your laughter, hug you tight
But you're no longer with me
You've headed toward the light

I'm sure you are quite happy
Here on earth I miss you so
Asking that same question
Why was it you that had to go?

I am sure there is an answer...
One that might make sense
When others offer reasons
I'm just on the defence

If they could understand me
Know how hard life is with grief
Just hold my hand and listen...
That would be a great relief

Although I seem to hide it
My sorrow's still so deep
Missing you in silence...
Quietly I weep

♥ I Believe ♥
(Written By Skip Ewing and Donny Keyes Copyright 2002)
(Song performed by Diamond Rio)

Every now and then
Soft as breath upon my skin
I feel you come back again
And it's like you haven't been gone
A moment from my side
Like the tears were never cried
Like the hands of time are holding you and me
And with all my heart I'm sure
We're closer than we ever were
I don't have to hear or see
I've got all the proof I need
There are more than angels watching over me
I believe, I believe

That when you die your life goes on
It doesn't end here when you're gone
Every soul is filled with light
It never ends and if I'm right
Our love can even reach across eternity
I believe, I believe

Forever you're a part of me
Forever in the heart of me
I will hold you even longer if I can
The people who don't see the most
Say that I believe in ghosts
And if that makes me crazy
Then I am
'Cause I believe, oh I believe

There are more than angels watching over me
I believe, oh I believe
Every now and then
Soft as breath upon my skin
I feel you come back again
And I believe
'Cause I believe, oh I believe.

☼ The Sea and the Beach ☼
(Tessa Wilkinson)

The sea seems to illustrate pain and sorrow so well
It comes in and goes out
For a while it is there, overwhelming, covering everything
Then slowly the tide turns and it withdraws
For a while we can see the beauty of the shells, the seaweed
We can rejoice in the patterns in the sand
We can feel the corrugated ripples under our feet
Alive to what is around, and beyond
But then the tide turns and again it is all washed away, all overwhelmed
We feel like the crashing of the waves on rocks
Raw and out of control
Full of anger and rage
Battered and bruised
Tossed about like flotsam floating wherever we are thrown
There are so many questions. Why now? Why him?
But no answers
Then the sea calms and gently the waves lap the rocks
We are soothed and the inner turmoil is calmed
In time we can learn to move up the beach as the tide comes in
Out of its reach
Not to be overwhelmed
The pain is still there, but in control
We can recognise the pain
Revisiting the sadness
Acknowledging how much the person is missed
We learn to turn away and look to the future
Knowing the person will always be part of us
Always loved and always remembered

~ Immeasurable (by Sean Ashcroft) ~

Laughter will still sound,
even though you’re gone.
But the decibels will dip,
with some smiles, painted on.
Hopes will still soar,
dreams float on high.
But the altitude will drop,
as will the supply.
Passion will still drive us,
desire wave us off.
But the revs will decline
and the engine might cough.
Time will be bejewelled,
lives lit by waltzing light.
But the carats will diminish,
its brilliance a lesser sight.
Yet memories have no volume,
love no mass nor weight.
These will broaden, widen, deepen,
a true measure of something great.

~ Life Beyond ~

Let them go, but not completely.
Hold on to them, but not too tightly.
Love them as you know you will,
as you always have.

Rejoice that they are well, the only difference
now is that you cannot see them,
But you feel them still and they will always be with you.
The spirit does not die as the body dies
and Love is of the spirit.

Nothing you have experienced together can be taken from you.
And your loved one shall be eternally yours in that love.
Weep not too long, that they may also cry,
But rejoice in their life and in yours also.
Let yours continue to be a celebration of all life; of your shared love,
Knowing that God holds you both in the palm of his hand
And in loving you both shall reunite you.
